New Member Class Brings Holiday Cheer to Teens

The membership committee is extremely proud of the work that the new members have done and will continue to work on in the New Year. These ladies are passionate, determined and enthusiastic, and JLCR is lucky and proud to have them as members.

The new member class of 2010 spent November and December working to raise money for the teens of the Four Oaks PHASE program in Independence, Iowa.

In a two-week timeframe, they raised nearly $2,200 through the sale of Butter BraidsĀ®. The New Members decided to use half of the money raised to purchase Christmas presents for the 36 teens who live in Independence as part of the PHASE program.

On Saturday, Dec. 18, representatives of the new member class and the membership committee delivered the gifts to the teens in Independence. Each teen received a sweatshirt and some personal items such as journals, books and games. The new members also hosted a party with a Christmas tree, decorations and holiday treats for the teens.

The second phase of the new member project will occur between February and April 2011. The new members, along with the membership committee, will use the remaining money raised to purchase paint, small furniture and wall decor to renovate and redecorate the girls’ group room in Independence.
