1966 Flea Market

1966 - Junior League Flea Market Raised $14,269 (which equates to $96,193.11 by today's standards)

The concept of Junior League was formed over a century ago (1901) in New York by a group of concerned young women who offered assistance to slum residents. Today, the Association of Junior Leagues International encompasses more than 295 autonomous Junior Leagues with more than 193,000 members.

JLCR was founded as a service league in 1929 and became the Junior League of Cedar Rapids in 1934. Currently we are a diverse group of 318 active and sustaining members.

Recently JLCR celebrated our 75th Anniversary. The following presentation commemorates these 75 years of volunteer work contributed to the community, including:

  • $1.63 million campaign for the Madge Phillips Center, a shelter that provides support and services to women and children in need
  • Playtime Poppy – 370 shows, originally started by JLCR
  • The Science Station started in 1986 by JLCR hosting over 1,000,000 visitors
