On May 30, Junior League of Cedar Rapids will host Vanessa Diffenbaugh, New York Times-bestselling author of “The Language of Flowers” and founder of the Camellia Network for Iowa’s largest foster care awareness event. There are more than 900 youth in the foster care system in Linn County alone. Ladies Titan Tire Challenge is one of 17 tournaments on the LPGA Symetra Tour. The LPGA Symetra Tour is known as “the Road to the LPGA.” The top 10 money winners at the end of each season earn LPGA Tour membership for the following year. Players on this Tour hail from 31 countries and bring with them impressive credentials and great success in previous level of play. They are the best young professional golfers in the world and they represent the next generation of LPGA players!

Volunteers are needed to make Ladies Titan Tire Challenge a success. Over 400 volunteers will provide almost 3,200 hours of volunteer service to support this event. Volunteering is fun and essential in running a successful professional golf tournament. Tournament volunteers fill roles such as cart drivers, real-time scorers, parking/main gate attendants, marshals/spotters, food and beverage and more. There is a $30 fee to volunteer for this professional tournament. For this $30 fee, volunteers are provided with a tournament dry fit golf shirt, complimentary food and beverage during his/her shift and a one-day tournament pass.

LPGA Symetra Tour events have contributed more than $4.65 million to charitable organizations. Proceeds from Ladies Titan Tire Challenge will enable JLCR to further its mission of promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women and improving communities. Proceeds from this event go to support Junior League of Cedar Rapids and their Bridging the Gap project. Junior League of Cedar Rapids (JLCR) is proud to announce the 4^th annual Ladies Titan Tire Challenge. Iowa’s only professional women’s golf tournament will be held June 5^th – 10^th at Hunters Ridge. This 54-hole event is part of the LPGA Symetra Tour. This developmental tour is known as the Road to the LPGA. Ladies Titan Tire Challenge is one of 18 stops on the 2012 tour. Titan Tire is returning as the title sponsor and is providing the $110,000 purse. This week-long family-focused event provides several opportunities for amateur golfers and fans to mingle with professional golfers.
 
To kick of this year’s event, we have added a new pre-tournament charity golf outing. The golf outing will be held on May 11^th at Hunter’s Ridge Golf Course.  The event will be a shotgun start at 1pm on Friday, May 11^th at Hunters Ridge Golf Course. The event is open to the public and the cost is $100 for individuals and $400 for a team of four. Entry fee includes 18 holes, driving range access, cart, and participation gift as well as a dinner and awards following. Prizes will be awarded to the top 3 teams in each flight. Mulligan’s can be purchased for $5 each (5 for $20) and you can even buy a shot from one of the LPGA Symetra tour players!

Fathers and daughters, grandfathers and granddaughters, and uncles and nieces enjoy a magical afternoon at the annual Butterfly Kisses Father Daughter Dance at the Cedar Rapids Country Club.

Girls will experience a memorable time with their favorite guy as they dance, make crafts, enjoy face painting, and doll up with hair accessories from Kathleen Rose Designs.

This year’s event will be held on Sunday, January 29th 2012 from 1:00-4:00pm at Cedar Rapids Country Club. Ticket prices are $75.00 per couple, and $15.00 for each additional daughter. Three raffle tickets are included with each ticket. Purchase tickets by January 11 and receive three additional raffle tickets.

Hosted by Junior League of Cedar Rapids with the Cedar Rapids Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, the exciting week will feature a junior clinic, adult clinic and Pro-Am events, and will culminate with three days of tournament play.

We need your help! Tournament volunteers fill roles such as cart drivers, real-time scorers, parking/main gate attendants and more. We need hundreds of volunteers to make this event a success. The tournament dates are June 3rd, 4th and 5th. Volunteers are needed during the three days of tournament play.

The CRCVB and the Sports Tourism Advisory Committee attracted the LPGA FUTURES Tour to the Cedar Rapids area in 2008. The Ladies Titan Tire Challenge is one of 17 tournaments on the LPGA FUTURES Tour, which prepares young professional women golfers for a successful career on the LPGA Tour. This year’s tour features 308 players from 38 nations and 38 U.S. states. They bring with them impressive credentials and great success in previous levels of play.

Ladies Titan Tire Challenge has been a success in the Cedar Rapids/Marion area. In 2010, it was voted the #1 tournament on the Tour by the professional players and Tour staff; up from #2 in 2009. The three-day attendance at both 2009 and 2010 tournaments was approximately 2500. More than 350 volunteers logged over 3800 volunteer hours for the 2010 tournament. The CRACVB reported a total of 539 hotel room nights used during 2010’s tournament week, and $160,213 of direct spending generated.

The week-long event will allow golf fans to watch and cheer alongside future LPGA stars. In addition to the professional tournament, organizers will offer amateur golfers a chance to play with a professional in pro-am events during the tournament week. There will also be a junior golf clinic for younger golfers.

JLCR is the local host and organizer of the event, which gives Iowans an opportunity to see firsthand the Tour’s world-class women athletes and role models. Proceeds from the event enable JLCR to further its mission of promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women and improving communities. Past JLCR community improvement projects include EIEIO at Old MacDonald’s Farm in Bever Park, the Science Station and Waypoint’s Madge Phillips Center for Women and Children.

While the chefs work their magic in the kitchen, attendees sample hot and cold appetizers provided by this year’s People’s Choice competitors: Jiamen, Zins, and Vino’s.  Dale Lee Distributing and Millstream Brewery will provide a beer tasting; First Avenue Wine House, Secret Cellar and Fireside Wineries will provide wine tastings.  In addition to door prizes, attendees may also purchase raffle tickets and participate in a silent auction to win some unique prizes, including a tasting of one of the competing Iron Chef’s final plates.
