JLCR Donates Clothes for Metro Threads

Junior League of Cedar Rapids (JLCR) members participated in a clothing drive in January called Metro Threads, which benefits students at Metro High School as they prepare to enter the workforce. The drive was one of JLCR’s Done in a Day (DIAD) projects, which are community service projects that are done one day out of every month from September through May.
At the January General Membership Meeting JLCR members brought in an abundance of donations for both men and women including: business clothing, casual attire, shoes, jewelry, scarves, ties, watches, belts, purses, wallets, gloves and hats. These were then brought to Metro High School so that students could select items to use as they apply for and interview for jobs and to wear once they begin a new position in the workforce.
Metro High School is the Cedar Rapids Area Alternative High School and is the largest Alternative High School in Iowa. Established in 1974 by the Cedar Rapids Community School District, Metro High School has been recognized twice as a Blue Ribbon School and is focused on mastering educational tasks regardless of obstacles.
